Due to family issues, I have relocated to Miami, Florida. I've taken a part-time position at a South Florida casino as a poker dealer while building up my photography business in the area. Ideally I'd like to focus on event photography, because I love shooting weddings. However, hours at my new job and stiff competition limit my options. I always love booking portrait sessions with babies, children and families. One of my first projects in Miami was working with a few models from Model Mayhem. I was lucky to work with very talented, beautiful and easy going models. I'm very happy with the images we produced and hope to set some body art projects in the near future. Maybe when the temperature cools!

More Happy Endings

Anyone living in Vegas will tell you that locals rock! That was how I felt working with these two!!! They are pretty much awesome!

Happy Endings

I was lucky to travel to Ft Myers to photograph the best party ever! Of course I was a little anxious at first. One of my oldest, dearest, closest friends was celebrating this auspicious moment. I was tasked with capturing the photographs!!! Normally that would be enough cause to make me anxious, add to it the fact that my friend is one of the most creative, talented, smartest people I know. Plus he's a photographer! In the end, I captured some great moments that they were happy with and I had an amazing time! Loved it. I wish every day were like this day.

Lucky

Right now all I have to say is that I'm a lucky girl! I just love photographing people, and I get to do it nearly every day. My goal is to keep improving and making people happy.

Groups

While photographing large families or groups, especially during weddings, I'm constantly challenging myself to try new arrangements. While I like to capture the traditional bride and groom in the middle and wedding party angled to either side of them, I also like to create diverse yet equally pleasing scenes. This is difficult when you have little children involved. Oh, kids! You gotta love them. I find it particularly rough when I'm doing some crazy voice throwing, screeching, screaming, yelling while jumping up and down or dangling keys in one hand and trying to steady my equipment with the other and it's the adults that aren't looking at the camera! So, needless to say I love the "casual" poses. That's when I say something like okay, just look at your neighbor and say hi! They don't always work, depending on your crowd, but I try them anyway. I feel like I'm getting better at it. I guess I take it for granted that I was raised in a camera happy family. When there was a camera introduced at a family function, we all seemed to gravitate into group poses as if we had magnets in our blood. I need to remember that not all families are camera nutty. (I'm not super thrilled when I'm in front of the camera either!)

Headshots!

As a photographer that really enjoys photoshop, I always fear that I rely too heavily on the post processing part of my artform. Part of my goal as a photographer is to capture fantastic images without relying on photoshop to correct. A photographer I work with, that I consider my biggest mentor, always says use photoshop to enhance not correct. I am fairly confident that I've gotten there and this recent work backs it up! I know it seems easy to capture gorgeous images when you have gorgeous subjects, but it's not always the case. Since I am one of those self-taught photographers, I'm fairly critical of myself since much of what I've learned has been through trial and error. Valerie is a gorgeous model and I have captured some gorgeous shots of her, without much airbrushing or correcting! I say bravo to her for keeping herself flawless!

Just keep clicking

It's been a long time! I've been consumed by non-blogging life. My sister had a baby, making me a first time aunt! I was able to visit Miami and take maternity photos, which was funny (maybe photos will be posted next time.) I got there just in time because little Dax popped out the next week. I missed being able to witness his birth by two days. TWO DAYS! I'll be able to meet him just in time for his 3 month photo session.
I've been taking newborn photos almost daily. I can't post any of those since I'm working for another company. It's corporate and I have no control over my images. I have also being working a lot at the chapel and getting adjusted to that type of uber fast paced environment. I also have been doing a lot of fun projects, like a "photo booth" event I did recently. That was fun because I created graphic elements to go along with my photography. I even used craft scissors! And of course the family I worked with was awesome. I can never complain about the people I've gotten to work with, I'm a lucky girl!
On that note, please check out http://www.gypsycatproject.com/default.html. I think they are awesome and I'm hoping to do some more work with them. I may be infiltrating AZ territory sooner than I think! I had a blast working on some promo photos with them. : )
For the next couple of months I'll be working as a dealer for The World Series of Poker and pretty much booked when I'm not dealing. My next blog should be exciting. I'll hope to have some photos of my nephew, along with pin-up photography I'm hoping to try out. I'm also hoping to find some time to work on my photoshop skills. I'm going to keep clicking that button and we'll see where it takes me!
